About The Centre

The department of Biochemistry has established SKU-Bioinformatics Centre (BIC) with the financial support received from DST-FIST and UGC New Delhi. The centre has been created with state of art net lab harboring hi-end server (uptron, 64 bit dual processor), Linux server controlling intranet of 22 clients. Rich software repository is another feature of SKU-BIC which includes Molecular modeling, drug modeling, protein structure prediction, molecular dynamics, docking, drug designer, Insight-II, Hyperchem, MODELLER, GROMACS, AUTOdock, ADT, VMD and many more. SKU-BIC has organized two national laboratory workshops sponsored by TATA-Elexsi and DBT, New Delhi, through which many underwent hands on experience in basic and advanced tools of Bioinformatics to analyze gene and protein sequences. SKU-BIC also provided flat form for conduction of project work for post graduate students from S.K. University, Anna University, Annamalai University, S.V. University, Mahila University, Shanta Biotech (Hyderabad). SKU-BIC has collaborations with Prof. Gautam, Anna University, Prof. USN. Moorthy, & Prof. Bhanu Prakash, IICT, Hyderabad, Prof. Mannar, CDFD, Hyderabad, Prof. Suguna, IISc, Bangalore. SKU-BIC has client registration with super computer centre, IIT, Delhi and utilizing the Amber, Insight-II many advanced tools through online. Research work at SKU-BIC has been published in international journals such as Bioinformation, Int. J. Genomes and Proteomes, Int. J. of Microbiology etc., DBT has sanctioned financial support to organize a 3 day national workshop on “Molecular Modeling and Drug Design” which is going to be held in the month of February/March 2007. SKU-BIC is having excellent infrastructure facilities to conduct advanced project work in the specified fields of Bioinformatics such as Protein structure Prediction, Protein targeted Drug Design, Reverse Vaccinology in designing vaccines, In silico identification of drug targeted proteins in M. tuberculosis and P. falciparum etc., Many requests are received by SKU-BIC daily for summer project placement from UG and PG students of Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Microbiology and other allied subjects of Life Sciences. Due to limitations of lab space and busy schedule SKU-BIC is rejecting painfully, many requests for project placements every year. In order to avoid last minute disappointment this year SKU-BIC has decided to receive all the requests for summer projects early and after dead-line the screening will be carried out on need basis to offer the limited placements for summer projects. Hence you are requested to forward your students requests for project work well in advance. The projects will be offered on cost basis.
