Introduction to structural Bioinformatics
Computational Chemists working in the area of structure-based drug design consider both chemical and geometric properties of the interacting molecules when developing new pharmaceutical drugs. The under laying assumption is that drug activity, or pharmacophoric activity, is obtained through the molecular recognition and binding of one molecule (lead) to a pocket of another usually larger, molecule (receptor). When we build three dimensional structure of receptor, through docking mechanism can predict the interactions between lead and receptor. All the above work comes under structural bioinformatics. To study and solve researchers problems relating to human health through in vitro and in vivo methods it will take lot of time. But through in silico methods time span and as well as economic factor can be reduced to discover new drugs for humans there is need of computational biology.
Introduction to Bioinformatics Centre
The Bioinformatics Centre has good infrastructure facility with a high end 64 Bits AMD Opetron dual Server .These facilities are used for research activities in Molecular dynamics, Molecular modeling, Docking, genomics and protein structure studies. In addition to bioinformatics research work, provide guidance on Projects in Bioinformatics for Postgraduates students from various Universities.
Information dissemination and training is one of the mandates of the centre. Regular workshops and training programmers are conducted by the centre for Professors, Lecturers, and students from branch of biological sciences with the latest trends in Bioinformatics and Computational biology.
Eminent faculty members are visiting Bioinformatics centre from India and abroad every year for the National Workshops and Seminars.
Bioinformatics Centre is organizing National workshops and Seminars every year by financial support from DBT-DST-New Delhi. Bioinformatics lab and networking facility funded by DST-FIST-UGC- New Delhi.
